Who we are

We are pleased that you are interested in First Presbyterian Church and we hope you will get involved here.  Most people's first contact with us is in worship.  When you arrive, a little before 9:30 on a Sunday, you will likely enter the doors on Franklin Street, but all the other doorways can welcome you too.  An usher will greet you and offer you a printed bulletin.  As people find pews, some will be talking and others will be getting focused on worship in their own ways.  Our pastors often move about the aisles and will be glad to greet you.  Please feel free to ask questions of any of us.

Children usually remain in worship for the first few minutes until a special Time With Children when they are invited to the front for a story or lesson.  Then most childen head to church school in our education building.  Parents are welcome to come along to the front or to accompany children to Church School on a first visit.  In the pew information racks you will discover information for families.

Not all churches are the same, and you are probably wondering how to make comparisons.  While we offer the programs and services offered by any good congregation, we have three great strengths, which are:  commitment to powerful worship with a growing music program for all ages, the dedication of more resources to children, youth, and their families, and an active approach to social justice, developing over decades.  I would welcome you to read our mission statement.

We will do our best to make it easy and fulfilling for you to discover whether your faith journey and our pathway are heading in the same direction.  May God bless you!
