Jeremy and Luta Garbat-Welch

Serving Christ together in Africa

Luta serves a community health facilitator in Malawi, where she is based, and in four other African countries, the Demoncratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Zambia. She helps African partners develop sustainable community health programs. Jeremy, a clinically-trained hospital chaplain, shared his expertise with the Presbyterian clergy in Malawi. "We are called to serve God by living holistic lives of faith and health, and sharing God's message of wholeness to others", they write. "We hope that through our lives and work that we will help others live lives of wholeness and healing for others and the world."

Kate Taber

Facilitator for Peacemaking and Mission Partnerships

First Presbyterian has the opportunity to fund the work of Mission Co-worker Kate Taber. The PC(USA) sends Mission Co-workers and provides a part of their funding, and the remaining funding comes from congregations and individuals.

Kate serves in Bethlehem, at Christmas Lutheran Church, with Rev. Dr. Mitri Raheb. Mitri was the Laws Peacemaking Lecturer, and the Presbytery of Ohio Valley has partnered with the work in Bethlehem for nine years. Kate says "It's a joy to partner with the people of Christmas Lutheran Church and all our ecumenical partners there who steadfastly labor in hope for justice and peace."

Kate, a Presbyterian pastor, served a congregation in Atlanta and received an Master of Divinity from Princeton. Her husband, Nathan Stock, accompanies her in Bethlehem. Along with funding her ministry, let us remember her birthday, April 7, and keep her in our prayers.
