Meet Our Mission Workers
Jeremy and Luta Garbat-Welch
Serving Christ together in Africa
Luta serves a community health facilitator in Malawi, where she is based, and in four other African countries, the Demoncratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Zambia. She helps African partners develop sustainable community health programs. Jeremy, a clinically-trained hospital chaplain, shared his expertise with the Presbyterian clergy in Malawi. “We are called to serve God by living holistic lives of faith and health, and sharing God’s message of wholeness to others”, they write. “We hope that through our lives and work that we will help others live lives of wholeness and healing for others and the world.”

Doug Dicks
Doug Dicks is a mission co-worker serving in Israel and Palestine as the Associate for Ecumenical Partnerships, in conjunction with St. Andrew’s Scots Memorial Church in Jerusalem and our other partners in the region.
In his role as facilitator for education for justice and peacemaking, Doug connects PC(USA) congregations and councils with indigenous Christians in Israel and Palestine. Doug’s extensive experience in the region as a PC(USA) regional liaison for Israel, Palestine and Jordan, mission co-worker, and peacemaking consultant and facilitator furthers his capacity to educate PC(USA) constituencies on the contextual realities of the churches’ witness in the region.
Through photography and information-sharing, Doug shepherds congregations and councils through the process of preparing for pilgrimages and other study trips. Doug’s work enables the larger PC(USA) community to advocate for peace and justice in Israel and Palestine.
First Presbyterian Church partners with Dar Al Kalima University in Bethlehem, Palestine. For more information about our partners, click here.
